‘Don’t Ever Let It End’ is Nickelback’s anthem for being stuck in the dreaded friend zone. It’s one of those songs that might seem disposable if you don’t personally connect with the predicament of the song. While Ireland is obviously a smaller country than those I mentioned, the fans still showed that they hadn’t forgot the band in those absent 8 years.

They previously praised Brazil and Germany as being die hard Nickelback fan bases. I don’t know the band members personally but I do get the sense that they really respect when countries embrace them on tours. Sometimes countries get lost in the shuffle and Ireland is by no means the only country that needed to be added to the European tour this year. The band themselves addressed the fact that they hadn’t played Ireland in a long time, in a very honest and sincere fashion. Chad’s vocals sounded very strong, which is a terrific thing to report considering his throat surgery last year. ‘Lullaby’ and ‘When We Stand Together’ also prove that ‘Here and Now’ has some of the most effective live songs in the band’s discography. ‘Someday’ is a relatively old song but the band created a very cool alternative intro for it and the song in general just sounds terrific live. I usually revel in the newer tracks that get played but for me it was the older songs that seemed to come to life on this tour. It sounds great live and it gets the crowd involved, especially in the chant section near the end. The opening track ‘Edge Of Revolution’ is a hell of a way to kick off the show. I had hoped that they would’ve added more obscure tracks but the setlist was much improved from the Greatest Hits Tour that came a few years previously. The setlist for the show didn’t throw up many surprises except for the addition of ‘Mistake’ which rarely gets played nowadays. When Irish fans take to a band, they really do embrace them and much like when Bon Jovi plays Ireland, the fans treat Nickelback like they’re coming back home. Nickelback’s reputation in Ireland is much like it is in the UK, the media and critics give them a hard time but once they get out in front of their fans, the reception is oceans apart. So when they finally announced that they would play Dublin again, I literally could not believe it. It’s no small secret that Nickelback hadn’t played a gig in Ireland in a long time, 8 years to be exact before October 9th of this year.
